Hello everyone and Happy Thanksgiving! As we approach the end of another great year for BALI- while hoping you had an amazing year as well, - we wanted to update you on some pretty cool things BALI team has been a part of lately. One of them was former First Lady Michelle Obama's GET HER THERE campaign.
Our very own Executive Director Liz Abzug and alumna Pritika Patel(Class of 2022) were invited to Michelle Obama’s Get Her There campaign lunch. Honorable speakers like Mrs. Obama, Melinda French Gates, and Amal Clooney gathered to discuss their support of the Girls Opportunity Alliance’s Get Her There campaign and girls’ education around the world.
The Alliance was excited to share during the lively gathering that the trailblazers' groups will be working together to achieve gender equality and abolish child marriage, assisting girls in their communities in overcoming obstacles that prevent them from achieving their complete capacity.
Amongst trailblazers in the field, was Wanjiru Wahome, the executive director of the Samburu Girls Foundation in Kenya, a community-led organization in the Girls Opportunity Alliance that works to liberate girls from child marriage and to assist them to get the education they deserve, joined the discussion with Mrs. Obama, Mrs.Clooney and Mrs. Gates.
Another event BALI proudly represented was the prestigious Obama Foundation Democracy Forum on November 17th, 2022. A day long event, it included 5 panels on extremelt important discussions on our democracy, including Tackling Disinformation, Dissmantling Hate, and Youth and the future of Democracy. The Forum was very well attended of course and even former President Obama spoke at the very end. President Obama gives remarks on the state of democracy around the world and the importance of a new generation of leaders to safeguard institutions and build a more sustainable future. He then joined a conversation with emerging Obama Foundation leaders from across the globe
BALI was honored to attend such impactful events, and to be represented by our founder and one of our wonderful alumna such as Pritika, who herself hopes to fight all these barriers against women as a future successful feminist lawyer. Both Liz and Pritika were honored and grateful to have been included in such a space where discussions for a better tomorrow for youth and women are the center of the discussions, and of course able to meet other inspiring leaders across all platforms working on the same front was truly inspiring.
