BALI FALL 2015 College Internship

Position: Bella Abzug Leadership Institute (BALI) Un-Paid Internship

Location: 1233E Hunter College

*The position requires a time commitment minimum of 6-10 hours a week.

*Applicants should be willing to start immediately in order to train and become familiar with the BALI Programming.

BALI is seeking 2 student interns to assist the Founder/CEO as well as the BALI Program Associates with planning and executing various leadership training programs for young women in middle, high school and college. 

BALI has worked with various New York City Public Middle Schools and High Schools to hold intensive leadership and debate training programs as well as Citywide Debate Competitions with our debate training partner organization the NYC Urban Debate League.

This internship involves working in coordination with the current BALI staff to identify "partner" NYC Public High Schools throughout the City, introduce them to BALI programs, and to recruit candidates who will participate in our debate training and leadership program as well as debate competitions. Interns will also work with our CEO to research new sources of foundation, solicit funding, and support for BALI. 

Job Description:

*Assist BALI Program Associates and the BALI Founder/ CEO with various program development and administrative tasks.

*Work with the BALI Program Associates to establish timelines for all aspects of the debate training, coordinating other BALI program activities including scheduling and attending meetings at schools and with other possible partnership organizations.

* Represent the organization with enthusiasm and professionalism when conducting conversations with probable partners and/or funders. 

* Work to identify specific partner schools for debate training and visiting/meeting with teachers and other appropriate personnel in selecting the schools from whichto recruit BALI trainees from and with which BALI can establishon going partnerships.

*Provide follow-up with schools between initial meetings and orientation events

*Work in coordination with our BALI program associate(s) and the New York City Urban Debate League, to coordinate the training for our spring and summer trainees and of debate competition events, disseminating information to both participants and schoolteachers as well as to volunteer debate judges.

*Develop plans for forums, symposiums on critical topics of interest to high school girls and college women and men feminists.

Qualifications:

Experience in coordinating projects

Detail Oriented

Ability to multitask and prioritize 

Exercise sound judgment

Self Driven, but also able to work on a team. 

Computer proficient in IOS Yosemite andMicrosoft Suite (Word, Power Point and Excel.)

A Women’s and Gender Studies background is strongly encouraged, but not required.

Commitment to increasing the number of young women in the political, civic, not for profit, advocacy and corporate/professional sectors is mandatory. 

Candidates should also have a strong belief in elevating women and girls to dynamic positions of leadership in their schools and in their own communities.
